Medical Massage
Defined as medically necessary massage, prescribed by a physician to generate an outcome based on a specific goal for improvement within a specific time frame.

From the time of the Greek physician Hippocrates, integrating massage therapy into patient care has aided in the treatment of conditions ranging from fibromyalgia to acute soft tissue injuries.

AMS Health strives to work as your partner in health to better serve your patient directives. We practice a variety of highly effective therapeutic modalities in the rehabilitation process.

Neuromuscular/Trigger Point Therapy breaks the pain/spasm cycle by eliminating trigger points in the body. Specific pressure coerces toxins at the nerve receptor sites, increasing flexibility, strength and circulation, while normalizing postural patterns. Releasing trigger points brings increased range of motion and circulation leading to pain relief in both acute and chronic conditions.

Myofascial Release loosens adhesions in the fascia and connective tissue adding in freer movement of individual muscles without binding restrictions.

Deep Tissue separates muscles to allow them to work separately and more efficiently. This is achieved through the freeing of adhesions between the individual muscles.

Low-Grade Joint Mobilization facilitates faster recovery of soft tissue injuries, which is obtained through the use of muscle energy technique. Our therapists are able to address joint restrictions commonly seen with acute injury.

If a modality a patient requires, for either medical or wellness massage, is not specified in our highlighted areas, AMS Health offers additional treatments. Please call our highly trained staff for more comprehensive information.

At AMS Health, we work closely with medical providers to help in the recovery from work-related and/or auto injuries.

Wellness Massage
Defined as a personal service initiated by a client to provide
relaxation, increase body awareness and to create balance with the objective of promoting health and wellness.

The pressures of daily life can tend to wear down both the body and mind. By receiving regular treatments of relaxation massage, the ability to respond to stress is enhanced while also invigorating the physical well-being.

AMS Health's massage therapists employ the primary forms of techniques to deliver their clients into a state of relaxation.

Swedish Massage promotes overall relaxation through the use of various hand manipulations, light or hard stroking, along with compression and percussion techniques, such as kneading, squeezing and friction, circulation and aid in the stretching of muscles and tendons to increase the range of motion.

Pregnancy Massage is performed by our skilled massage therapists trained in prenatal massage for expecting mothers. This is a wonderful way to help relax the bodies and minds of women during pregnancy.

Crainosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is the manipulation of the craniosacral rhythmic motions of the body in order to bring those motions back into a balance. The craniosacral system provides an energetic background for the development, growth and functional efficiency of the brain and spinal cord from the time of embryonic formation until death. A craniosacral session is conducted by using gentle holds. Subtle resistance is given to body rhythms that are out of balance to bring the body's rhythms back into symmetry. The benefits of craniosacral therapy are relief from stress, a state of deep relaxation and an increased sense of being centered.

Reiki

Reiki is an energetic approach to the body, where the practitioner places his/her hands on 12 prescribed areas of the body, front and back. In each position the hands are rested gently on the body and remain still for 3-5 minutes without manipulation of any sort. This form of bodywork helps the client to achieve a deep relaxation and quietness of mind. Also, it is effective in healing of mental, physical and emotional issues.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a type of deep compression foot (or hand) massage, which addresses the body through the reflex response. The thumbs are used extensively in this work to break up crystalline deposits which have formed at the nerve endings, particularly on the bottom of the feet. This type of work relaxes the whole body

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones. They are often basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well.

It is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage. The heat helps tight muscles release.

What Happens During a Hot Stone Massage?

  • Before you arrive, the massage therapist sanitizes the stones and heats them in 120 and 150 degree water.
  • The therapist uses traditional strokes of Swedish massage while holding a heated stone. As the stone cools, the therapist replaces it with another.
  • The therapist might also leave heated stones in specific points along your spine, or in the palms of your hand, or even between your toes to improve the flow of energy in your body.
  • If you have inflammation or muscle injury, cold stones are sometimes used.

How Much Does a Hot Stone Massage Cost?

A hot stone massage is more expensive than a basic Swedish massage because it requires more preparation and usually runs longer.

What You Need To Know About Hot Stone Massage:

  • The therapist uses many stones of various shapes and sizes.
  • The heat of the stones helps muscles release more quickly than in traditional massage.
  • You should speak up if the stones are too warm or the pressure too intense.

What conditions is hot stone massage used for?

Many people find the warmth of the hot stones to be comforting. Hot stone massage is suited to people who tend to feel chilly or who have cold feet. It's also suited for people who have muscle tension but prefer a lighter massage. The heat relaxes muscles, allowing the therapist to work the muscles without using deep pressure.

  • Back pain and aches
  • Poor circulation
  • Osteoarthritis and arthritis pain
  • Stress, anxiety and tension
  • Insomnia
  • Depression

How will the stones feel?

The stones are never rough. They are always flat and smooth. The stones used on the back are about the size of a large egg, only flat.

The stones are heated in an electrical heating unit that either provides a temperature reading or has an adjustable thermostat control.

The massage therapist always holds the stones first before touching them to your body, which ensures that the temperature will not be too hot. However, everyone has their own comfort range. Be sure to speak up if the stones are too hot for you.

Cool marble stones are occasionally used during a treatment, particularly if there is inflammation.

Massage is not recommended for certain people:

  • infectious skin disease, rash, or open wounds

Acupressure/Shiatsu

Shiatsu, also known as acupressure, is a finger pressure massage technique. that is sometimes confused with acupuncture. Shiatsu massage therapy and acupuncture are founded on the Chinese meridian system. The therapist applies pressure with his thumbs, finger, and palms to specific areas of the client's body that have been determined during an assessment period prior to the massage session. There are no needle pokes involved with Shiatsu. Massage techniques like tapping, squeezing, rubbing, and applied pressure are applied along the meridians to unblock energy blockages and reintroduce the optimal flow of ki.

Benefits of Shiatsu Massage

  • Deep muscle and tissue relaxation
  • Stress reduction and management
  • Releases toxins from the body
  • Dis-ease preventative
  • Increased flexibility
  • Improved blood circulations
  • Reduces blood pressure
  • Reduces mental anxieties
  • Balances ki (chi)
